archipelago has been ecologically isolated from mainland Sumatra
since the mid-pleistocene period resulting in high levels of
endemism amongst its indigenous Flora and Fauna.
Siberut is largely covered with primary dipterocarp and mixed
forest as well as conservation value has attracted the attention of
worldwide fund for nature and they work together with the local NGO
(Association the indigenous peoples of Mentawai) resulting in the
declaration of 'The Siberut National Park' encompassing slightly
less than half of the Island. Siberut has attracted most attention
