Anyone that has had the pleasure of spending some quality time
in the Mentawai islands ends up being captivated by its beauty,
friendly people and above all, perfect surf.
But most leave the region hoping like hell that the area will be
protected from unscrupulous development and tourism operators who
dont care for, or appreciate, the need to create ongoing harmony
between the people, the environment and economic benefits.
Its called Sustainable Tourism and thats where we come in.
PT Onu Mentawai International (OMI), is a company registered in
the Mentawai Islands of Indonesia.
As the only Mentawaian registered company to secure one of the
five recently awarded Tourism Licenses to operate exclusively in
the Mentawai Islands region, we not only have the capital &
intellect to fulfil our objectives, most importantly, we have
undivided support from the local Mentawaian people to deliver them
economic benefit without compromising their uniquely beautiful

Protecting the locals
The Mentawaian people live in an unspoilt but third world
environment. It is paramount that we continue to apply the upmost
dedication and resources to protecting the local culture of the
Mentawaian people. We are creating an economic blueprint that will
assist the local population to prosper in ways that elevate their
standard of living without sacrificing the beauty of their culture
by imposing an entirely western approach.
We have secured a high level of Government support in the entire
region because we are providing more than resorts.

Our Key Objectives
In essence our key objectives consist of the following key
ingredients :
- Co-existence of water sport resorts with economic advantage for
the indigenous people
- Improved health - medical clinics throughout the region -
headed by western doctors but training local Mentawaian
doctors
- Education & training - Hospitality School - providing
subsequent jobs for the locals plus a specific policy for
supporting local schooling & further education
- Jobs (workforce & sustainable future)
- Local authentic tourism (Souvenirs, eco-tours)
- Agriculture, Aquaculture (supply chain to the resort plus local
sustenance)
- Maintain & respect of local cultural integrity
- Transport - hubs & facilities including Airport & Boat

What's in the Pipeline?
Ultimately we will construct & operate a range of surf &
water sports resorts throughout the Mentawai Islands.
Our plan caters for water sports enthusiasts from all over the
world to enjoy the natural playground that is the Mentawai Islands
in varying degrees of luxury. But all with a common outcome of
delivering some of the most exciting, breathtaking water sports
environments in the world to our guests with privacy and
safety.
